Salina di Cervia

The ‘Salina di Cervia’ is the northernmost in Italy and extends for 827 hectares, in a natural park, today the southern gateway to the Po Delta Park and which has always been a natural reserve for populating and nesting for many animal and plant species.

It is here that salt is formed and collected, in an artisanal way, just as it used to be, but with the help of a conveyor belt and a trolley, which is in all respects a little train. The use of harvesting machines dates back to 1959 and since then – except in the Salina Camillone, a living section of the Salt Museum, Musa, where harvesting is still done by hand, with the so-called multiple collection method – every year from the end of August. at the beginning of September the rite of cavadura takes place.
